ISO: Good Restaurants in Bayonne

  • r
  • 2

I'm going to be in Bayonne on Saturday for a karate tournament. I will be getting out most likely around 2 or 3 pm. I need a restaurant for late afternoon - for a late lunch -

Preferable either chinese, Italian or a diner

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I will have a 12 year old boy with me (altho' he looks like a man already - he's taller than I am) who is somewhat picky.

We will be on Kennedy Blvd in the 1200's. Something nearby would be good. Last time I was there, in 2004, I don't remember seeing any restaurants, just lots of homes.

Not exactly sure if we are going to stay afterwards to eat or not. Just in case, I need some suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

  1. Two blocks south, Broadway is the commericial area, with lots of restaurants.

El Aguila Dorada at Broadway/38th st, for delicious, homemade, geniune Mexican food. Tacos, quesidillas, chiles rellenos, shrimp w/garlic sauce, their refried beans are all top notch. Everything new I try is incredible.

Hendrickson's at Bway/31st, for more straightforward, stick your ribs grub. Took my in-laws there after my wife's graduation and was a good choice.

I'll be in Hoboken this weekend and thought it would be nice to head over to Bayonne for breakfast or lunch one day. My father grew up there, and I spent my first few years there in the 60s. Can anyone recommend a place that has been around that long -- or at least feels like a long-time local place? Sounds like Hendrickson's might be the ticket.
