students in paris
I will be in Paris for a glorious 4 months and am looking forward to all the gastronomical and enological adventures I'm sure to have. However, as a student there is an obvious budget involved. I will not bore you with a request for cheap eats as this board is inundated with great suggestions (all of which I'm sure to try), but I do wonder the following:
Does this city have the student deals one has grown to know and love in an American college town or major city? Anything along the lines of discounted wines and foods with the presentation of a student ID (be it foreign or local). I have read (and had the pleasure of experiencing) that the happy hour concept has been taking European cities by storm, and while unwinding 17h-19h might be enjoyable, a friendly trivia night at a pub is always pleasant.
Thank you in advance, and I can't wait to delve into a Parisian life...
i've never been to a bar/cafe or restaurant that has offered student discounts - i just checked the isic website, and it mainly offers discounts at places like hard rock or the river cruise restaurants. i think breakfast in america might offer a student price on a burger, but only at certain times. i know a lot of students who purchase a "paris pas cher" book and use that for discounts (primarily for free apéros; etc.)
This is probably not what you're looking for, but I have noticed one student discount at a sandwich place in my neighborhood. They have a lunch special: sandwich + dessert + drink, regularly for 8E, but for students it's 7E. I think I noticed this because it doesn't really seem like much of a deal (or a discount). But if you're interested, the sandwich place has an acid green awning and is on bd Raspail on the block between rue de Rennes and rue du cherche midi.
i walked past a pub yesterday that advertised thurs as "student nights" - though i'm not sure what exactly that means. they also have pub quizzes.
