Problems opening an All American Pressure Canner

I have an All American Pressure Canner which I have had for several years. I have no problems with it except that we have a had time opening it even after it is totally cool. My husband has had to take a rubber mallet to it to get it open. I know that isn't a good thing to do to it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? TIA.

I had the same problem just last night. I have the same type of canner.
I read the instructions again (for the umpteenth time) and apparently it has to do with the lubrication. Next time I'm going to use more petroleum jelly on the beveled area.
My husband did the same thing yours did, but this morning he unscrewed those tabs that lock in the lid and he said it came off easily.

Thanks msandi, I didn't think you could put petroleum jelly on it but if you have read the instructions (which I haven't since I can't find them) then I will try it immediately.

I had this problem with my Presto. A new gasket cured it.

Unfortunately there is no gasket on it. Thanks though.
