re: mattpergo
When good food is done in by lousy service.
La Villa Trattoria in Westport. The food was good, really good. I had spaghetti carbonara and this was very good carbonara. My drink was excellent, and the wines were generous pours. The bread and the parking were free. In light of the lousy service, the price per person was $60., which wouldn't have been bad even with great service. The ambience was small, but there was near ample space between tables.
But the service? Whoo boy, where do these servers come from? From the first moment, the server had a retort when trying to take away the wine list, because the host had informed him he wasn't finished with it. On passing a dish across the table, we were informed 'well I can't get behind her (the diner) chair, there's no room'. It went on in that vein until he dropped a good number of after-dinner drinks on someone and...........did I hear him mention dry cleaning bill? No, of course not, not until pressed to do so. Hah. Pressed.
Anyway, I wouldn't go back on a bet and neither will anyone else. I wonder why that happens, a restaurant with obviously good food hires servers from hell?

Try La Serra in Westport. Has an unbelievable Italian wine list....better than most in NYC for selection and price. You won't be disappointed.

Paci in Southport for excellent italian. Not new, but maybe new to you? Westport is kind of a wasteland of restaurants...strange since there are so many, but none that we go to for dinner. Acqua is good for lunch, as is Blue Lemon. Anything in particular you are looking for?
