BarCar in Fleetwood, NY

I tried this new place tonight that has been getting some good reviews! It was pretty pretty good. All in all the place has a really fun menu with quite a few EXCELLENT dishes! The atmosphere is casual but kinda hip. Waiters are really friendly.

My general impression was that they are definitely more of a meat restaurant and NOT a seafood place. All the seafood dishes we ordered weren't bad at all, but very bland. However, the meat dishes were AWESOME. My favorites were Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls, Curried Chicken Quesadillas, Grilled Pork Loin, and the Meat Sauce!!

Really not bad! Apps and salads range from 7 (soup) to 14 (shrimp and crabmeat cannoli) and entrées range from 14 (burger) to 27 (filet mignon). Desserts were 7

        So $50.-60. a person, including a drink, at a pizza owner's joint?

It really is much more than a pizza joint! For the atmosphere and the service, and the quality of the food, i was actually expecting it to be more expensive!

It is not a pizza is the same owners as the pizzeria but is completely seperate from the pizzeria.. they do offer a thin crust pizza on their menu but other than that, any dish you would typically find in a pizzeria will not be found in BarCar (for example: Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Francese, etc.)

It really is nice. I went there a couple of months ago. I remember that the bread was great and so was the Black Angus burger. It definitely has a hip decor and the service is excellent. The location is a little odd, though.

      2. I took my mom there on Christmas eve. At that time, they had a small menu and didn't have any specials, I'm not sure if that has changed. Food was O.K. the service was not so good though. There was only one woman working as a waitress, she was wearing black jeans and a long apron. clearly, there were too many customers for just one waitress, we sat with empty cocktail glasses and an empty bread basket for quite some time. I hope things have improved by now. I am going to try it again soon, hopefully they have hired a better wait staff and expanded the menu.

@FrankieT945: Of course the service was poor; it was Christmas eve! Give 'em a break!

I was there this week. The food was fine but definitely not memorable. Come on. Buffalo chicken spring rolls? Everything bad for you wrapped into one item. My NY Strip steak was cooked accordingly (thank goodness - I hate when they ask and then char the heck out of it)...but there was some 1970's sauce poured all over it. My mashed potatoes were crusted over. The thin crust pizza appetizer was underwhelming -- basically a pizza pie pizza -- nothing fresh on it. Calamari, I admit, was delicious. Chicken paillard was nearly ignored by my companions. I dared not ask how bad it was. Service was totally lacking. I was always in need of a water or wine refill and it took a long time for my requests to be fulfilled. The place was busy -- I'm honestly happy for that. But by Chowhound standards, this place is not worth going to.

        2. We finally got there last night. Service was good but only two other couples there as it was a tuesday in August. Really enjoyed the salad, dressing was delicious and also the fried baby artichokes. For dinner I had the hangar steak, good but sauce a little overwhelming but my dh salmon was really good. He had a very nice chocolate mousse and I had the napoleon for dessert. Really enjoyed it. they do a price fix special Sunday through Wednesday for $29 which is a great deal. We will definitely go again.

We have been 2x and enjoyed it both times.

I had the pear martini both times and I really liked it. The fried artichokes are delish although I think they need to come up with a dipping sauce. We also like the fried calimari and neither tasted oily to us.

I had the salmon the 1st time and the 2nd time was a few weeks ago on their 1 year anniversary. The place was PACKED. I had the mixed grill special which was filet, pork tenderloin, italian sausage and charizo (sp). It was just delish and my filet was cooked perfectly as was the pork.

We will go back for sure.

          2. This establishment has closed and re-opened as a Latin Fusion restaurant and bar. The old BarCar website will lead you to the new restaurant, only the site isn't up.

And now it is The Fleetwood Tavern advertising wings and budweiser. I guess the upscale fusion thing just wasn't working.
