Last year I couldn't find anywhere that had them in NYC--it was awful. NYC claims to be a food capital, but hatch green chili is my favorite food and it doesn't exist here. I almost ordered them from Hatch express on dry ice last year, but I didn't have the money at the time.
This year, however, there was a blurb in the nytimes (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/10/din...) saying that Forager's market in Brooklyn (56 Adams St.) has them. I intend to go today or tomorrow, so I have not yet verified this claim. If the rumor is true, I will be the girl in line buying 20 lbs. of them.

They have canned green chiles in Gristede's on West Fourth Street. They're pretty tiny cans though, and it will be hard work to have enough to make any real recipes.
