East Bay (Oakland & north) -- BEST French fries?

I searched, and there's no recent thread on this topic.

I really, really love good French fries, which are not easy to find. I had lunch this week at Luka's, and was wowed by their outstanding fries with the various dips. Where else in Oakland, Berkeley or north can I find superior French fries -- crisp and golden on the outside, moist and fluffy within?

As far as I'm concerned, a huge plate of great fries is a meal in itself.

  1. Luka's are by far the best I've had in that style around here. Frjtz in SF is good too.

    1. I agree Luka's is good. You could also try A Cote, and Cafe Rouge.

      2. I really like the "fries" at Cesar's, the Berkeley location. (I don't think the one on Piedmont serves them). They're super thin, crispy, salty, and served with an aioli.

        1. Wood Tavern has great fries. They're a little skinnier than the fries at Luka's, though. Agreed on the A Cote fries.

That describes the fries I had at Rocky's on Shattuck, not quite in the league of the other places mentioned in this thread. They accompanied a humble but perfectly adequate burger as I noted in a previous post.
