Very casual, west chelsea/garment district group dining
Hello,
Wondering where to eat after galleries with a group of people. Usually it's around 8pm and a mixed crowd (4-8) without enthusiasm for paying very much. Grand Sichuan on 24th and 9th is good, the Hog Pit used to be empty, Rub is good for a group. Tia Pol, Red Cat, Cookshop are all too formal. Anything new and reasonably priced but not too crowded? Half King is too loud and hit and miss food, but we end up there anyway. The Park is quite miserable. Really looking for a decent, totally empty pub with good food, but the ones I'm thinking of went out of business (not enough customers?).
Thanks so much for suggestions.

Try Zemi on 18th and 9th. It's new (a few months old?) and very casual and has great food and selection for the price. It is labeled as an "asian bistro" - offering anything from lo mein and pad thai to great wraps and sandwiches. I know it doesn't sound possible, but they make it work. We live in the neighborhood and dine or order out from there a couple of times a week. There are always tables available, but I have noticed it's starting to fill up with more repeat locals like ourselves.
