went to Cafe Maxx on tuesday night. we live a mile from there but have never been inside. very nice place and we'll definitely be back for the regular menu, but i thought the dine out selections were a little offputting for some people. wife had the filet, i had the lamb. both were good, but slightly undercooked. everything else was pretty pedestrian fare.

Just back from FLD. Had a very nice Dine Out Lauderdale meal at the Blue Moon Fish Company. Crab and Crawfish cakes with cliantro aloili, blackened mahi-mahi, scallops and shrimp over mashed potatoes with large chunked carrots and green beans. Size of the mahi-mahi was a bit deceiving in the low light as it was stacked on top of the potatoes. Excellently cooked, firm but not dried out. Veggies and starch were veggies and starch. Not really a place to dine alone at a bar table, but the staff was very friendly and the bartender took good care. Took the chocolate torte back to the hotel and had it for lunch the next day. Very good! A real bargain with the DineOut menu!

I think Lola's issues have been service and management as I have read on the boards here how people have been very perturbed by the lack of service and proper management.

Just ate at sunfish last week..it was pretty bad.

Fish, in fort lauderdale, says they are closed for renovation, but rumor has it that it will be a permanent closure.

I would stay away from Lola's on Harrison..menu was a little boring when they first opened a year ago, and from what I hear, they have changed very little throughout the year. I havent been in a long time, but I continue to hear bad reports.

I must say that the list of restaurants participating, and the days the menu will be offered, is quite disappointing. For an event that is trying to replicate Miami Spice, Dine Out sure seems to be dropping the ball.

Completely disagree with you about Lola's. Been back a couple of time over the past month and everything was very good. Moreover, the chef has continued to change the menu. Yes some favorites remain but there have been additions along the way.

I agree stay away from Lola's on Harrison.
Been open a year and we find it boring also, pretty much the same menu for over a year with a few changes and service still lacks!
Plenty of other restaurants to tak advantage of.

Well, scratch the "burger tasting"!! Several of these are in the areas where I'm staying and doing business for 3 days in October. $35/person is a great deal!

Chowfather, should I make reservations? Or do I just saunter in? This is a "dining alone" trip.

Crewsweeper, since I think you helped me when I was looking for decent chow in Tallahassee, let me mention to you that I read today that the chef at Sunfish Grill has left, so I would bump Sunfish to the bottom of the list. I agree with Chowfather's recommendations, especially Cafe Maxx, which seems like a really great value for what you are being served.

Thanks, tlubow. It was on my nearby list, but so is Cafe Maxx, Grille 66 and Blue Moon. Not sure if I'll make all 3 but will put Cafe maxx on the top of the list. Have a couple of lunch openings so still thinking about burger tasting at Jacks then perhaps Mango's, 5 Guys or Primanti Bros (if I'm hunger enough for the #2). Might do a drive thru for 5 Guys in Tarmac on the way out of town, if traveling the Turnpike to 595 to the airport is reasonably fast in the late afternoon.

Crew, if you are going to be on 595/turnpike I would recommend heading a little further west on 595 and hitting Char-hut for a burger, Better than 5 guys and Jack's

By the way, I think you have superior burgers at Ted's Montana Grill in Tallahassee. I'd definitely take one of those over 5 Guys, Jacks or Char Hut. As a matter of fact, can you bring me one??? :)

Yes I too like Ted's buffalo burgers. I'm surprised the chain hasn't hit SFL yet. There are 2 in Jacksonville. I'd drop one off to you but it'd be hard as a brick before I get anywhere near FTL after I leave Tally. In deed the TSAers would probably chow down on it in front of me before letting me through the scanner. :()
