update on 28806 in Asheville

Jeff C. Sep 10, 2008 11:51 AM

Someone (maybe Leah?) posted a note last spring that 28806 was going to relocate from West Asheville to Lexington Ave. downtown. So far it hasn't happened and I haven't heard anything since. Did the deal fall through or has it just been delayed?

Just received an e-mail newsletter. Sat 11/15 indeed is last day, for lunch only.
Scratch will open "soon"...but their hours will be:
    Mon. - Sat.
    Lunch 11 -3
    Dinner 5:30 -10
    Late night 10 - midnight

Thanks. Let us know if you hear anything about a firm opening date.

Slight detour of topic, but has there been any word if/what might go into the old location? I used to live almost right across the street from there, and it was great to have a non-fast food place so accessible. I hope something similar takes advantage of the space!

Actually, 10 years ago there were several restaurants quite close to that area, but they are all gone or closed.

I think a Mexican restaurant is going in the old 28806 space. Like West Asheville needs another Mexican joint...

Also I was in the other day and was told the last day they will be open for lunch is Saturday Nov. 15th. Get yer MBLT's while you still can!!

Drove by yesterday - they look WEEKS away from opening, at best.

28806 is having a final 'goodbye' wine dinner on Nov. 11th (i think?), so i imagine the new place (3 story building next to Rosettas) won't be open until after that.

Thanks for the update. Eric is a great executive chef, and this more visible location is his chance to shine. I wish him much success.

I was in yesterday for lunch and inquired. They said it is right on schedule...but didn't elaborate. The new name will be "Scratch" and the 28806 location will close. Originally I was under the impression that both spots would be open, so this was new to me.

Was not able to inquire about the new menu...

"Scratch"??? That may be the worst name for a restaurant I've heard. Sounds like a bad case of the crabs!

Apparently they mean "from scratch" as in ingredients.

Well, yeah. But it's still a lame name.

sounds like it might be dog-friendly.

If the caliber of the cooking remains the same they can call Red Hot Monkey Vomit, and I'll still show up!

I drove by the other day and it definitely looks like work is being done inside but they are far from close to open. Most recently I heard October - but i find that doubtful.

Is it going to be where T.S. Morrison's was or what?
