Old fashioned bar?

Looking for a neighborhood bar in the Hurst/NRH area. No sports bars, chains, wine bars, or karokai joints. Just an old fashioned, dimly lit, "bar" bar (hopefully full of characters and smoke.)

Been a while since I lived over there, but the bar at Tucker's Catfish Haven (Davis and Harwood) was a good "bar" bar.

It's pushing your geo limit, but you could visit and maybe get a reference from The Back Porch in Grapevine ( http://www.backporchtavern.com/index.htm ) or The Yacht Club in Euless ( 200 Dickey Dr off SH 10 E. of Main St ).

      Both are bar-bars.

I second the Back Porch. Outside is more of nice clean suburban shopping center but inside is the bar scene you are looking for. I know they have bands some nights, but I think the bands are usually more of the singer songwriter types.
Also, since this is chowhound, the food is pretty good. I usually get the chicken fried chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes. It is probably best described as southern comfort food, but definitely good food and I am a sucker for live music.

Another good/ divey "bar" bar I have found in this area is Volcano's on Harwood between Precinct Line and Brown Trail. I think the intersection is Norwood. Someone described it to me as a blue collar Fox & Hound and that is probably about a perfect description. Definitely dimly lit and full of characters.
