NY're looking for a cool beer Bar in Vegas (on the strip?)
Going to Las vegas in a couple of weeks. My SO and I are not really club people. I much prefer a nice bar/wine place to relax and chill out. We are staying at the Mandalay Bay so nearby would be nice but doesn't have to be. We both love good beer so a place with an extensive beer list would be lovely. Kind of like a Blind Tiger (nyc bar where we are from) but in Vegas. Any wine bar recs would be great as well. Thanks!

I'll be in Vegas in late March for a conference at the Riviera, am staying at Villas at Polo Tower. Would any of the places on this board posting be good for my 6-yr-old and me to get together with his godfather, who is probably staying at the Sahara? He took us to his local pub in Dursley, England, with his family and is pretty serious about beer these days. I am a vegetarian. The kid is a kid. None of us likes smoke. We enjoy sitting outside as long as we're not right next to a road or parking lot. Walking a mile or so is no problem, as long as they're decent streets.
Any and all suggestions, including best time of day for our stopover, would be appreciated!

re: saacnmama
Yardhouse would be a good choice: good beer selection, outdoor seating, decent food, no smoking. Take a cab, though. You don't want to walk.
It's not like a local pub, however. If you want something more like what you did in England, the Crown & Anchor is a good choice and also no-smoking, but further away from the Strip and perhaps not quite as family oriented.-

Its too far to walk. The Deuce Bus does run down that way, but cabbing is the way to go. The Yard House is in Town Square, which is one of my favorite places to take visitors. The shopping is good, the parking is easy at the back and the Rave movie theater is one of the nicest in town.

I just go back from Vegas and went to many bars and my two favorites are Nine Irish Men in the NYNY Casino which is real close to yall. Go around 9:30 and they got a authentic irish band there. GREAT atmosphere. Real Irish Men working, Geat Beer and cider on tap and the food ain't to bad eithier. For cocktails and a relazinf atmosphere try Parasol Down Bar at the Wynn. Overlooking the waterfall, kick a$$ coctails and really nice servers.

re: baseballfan
Are you possibly referring to two separate places?
Nine Fine Irishmen is an Irish pub that frequently has live music, sometimes with and sometimes without a piano player ( although I've never seen "dueling" pianos there ).
There is also The Bar in Times Square in the same resort ( NYNY ) that has live dueling pianos every night.
I've never had food at either place ( can't imagine the fare being chow-worthy, but you never know ), so I can't comment. But it's worth noting that the two of you may be talking about two different places.

I am totally blanking on the name, but there is a great beer bar near the University....IMO just as close to to Mandalay Bay as Yard House (neither one being walkable). It is known as a University hangout, but has one of the best beer lists in town. Not upscale by any stretch. I am counting on someone from chowhound to save me here and give you the name...I first heard about it from chowhound.
There is something to do with Frogs in the name; I'm pretty sure. Freddy Frog's, maybe? Its a silly-sounding name....

re: roze
Not even close to walking distance. I don't even think there would be a sidewalk that ran the whole way. Hardly anything in Vegas is walking distance from anything else, other than certain hotels which are kind of grouped together. One grouping is Mandalay-Luxor-Excalibur-NYNY-MGM. Another grouping is Paris-Bally's-Planet Hollywood-Bellagio-Caesars-Flamingo. Another grouping is Venetian-Palazzo-Wynn-Mirage-TI. IMHO.

re: ciaogal
Nice rec on Yardhouse. I'm not much for chains but this place definitely delivers on the beer end of things.
Another place that might do it for you is Crown & Anchor. It's an authentic British pub with a lot of draft beers and decent British pub fare. It's somewhat of a college hangout, especially on the weekends, but don't let that discourage you - it's definitely a place that everyone should check out at least once. It's on Tropicana & Maryland Pkwy. Not walkable but close enough to drive without much worry.

re: AGENT FOODIE
Not sure this is what you are looking for but the Fontana Lounge in the Bellagio has always been one of my favorite places to go for a drink. I have not seen any of the acts there and generally like to go early to sit on patio and take in the fountains and drink one of my favorite beers...Fat Tire.
