This Friday - Midtown - Casual, but Delicious?

We are driving into the city this Friday (September 12) just for the day with some friends who are flying up from Florida. Will be spending the day shopping, walking, doing whatever our friends would like, as they haven't been to the city in quite a while. I am thinking we will likely be somewhere between Times Square and Central Park south around dinner time. After shopping / walking / whatever all day, we certainly won't be dressed for Babbo, or else I would try to shoot for one of the 5:00 tables (longshot, but you never know). So, does anyone have any suggestions of someplace that is casual, yet serves really excellent food? Type of food doesn't matter - we're all open to anything. The thing is, one of our friends is a chef and his restaurant is one of our favorites in Florida. So, I would hate to disappoint them at our one dinner in the city. Help please?

  1. You might want to try the cafe at Aquavit - excellent Scandinavian food, and relatively casual.

    1. dbBistro Moderne, on 44th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs., might be a good option.

      1. For very casual and very delicious, I would go to Yakitori Totto and its brethren on the east side (Aburiya Kinnosuke, Soba Totto but not Tory's)
