Artisinal Izakaya/small plates Japanese.

Artisinal meaning artfully composed but also meaning that there is not a huge kitchen staff and things move relatively slowly.

Quality is high though. It is not to be confused with a sushi bar though they do offer sushi & sashimi - just not primarily their thing.

Thanks those all look real good. Saw some negatives on Yuta but I'll still try it out. Does anybody have a more recent experience?

Daichan has some interesting dishes, at least, but it doesn't serve izakaya really. You gotta bring yer own beer, but there is no corkage!

Yes, interesting choice...kind of a funky place. Saw an unhappy Lucy Liu there once too.. (Unhappy not because of the food, but because she seemed existentially unhappy...).

Service is warm and friendly. I like the place.

I haven't been to either of those but have been to Izayoi and Honda-ya. Are you looking for an izakaya? Kyushu ramen on Sherman Way just west of Sepulveda had, the last time we went (many months ago), tried to divide its two rooms even more, with the room housing the "sushi bar" being turned into an izakaya of sorts. Many, many small plates, but not as many as Izayoi and Honda-ya (nor as good).

not to change the topic, but which in your opinion is better - izayoi or honda-ya. i've been to honda-ya and loved it, and have heard of izayoi, but never been.

For my money, Izayoi and then Raku Plus in Honda Plaza across the street from Office Depot are HEAD and SHOULDERS above Honda-ya. Not even the same league here...
