50th bday party for 70 on UWS or Midtown

Looking for a place to hold my husband's bday party (cocktail party instead of a sit-down dinner), preferably on the UWS or mid-town this November. Looking for good food (on the upscale side) and fun place. Willing to pay up to $150 per person and am willing to pay for the whole restaurant for the right place. Used to live in NYC but now live in California so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try the Rainbow Room. It's about the most fabulous location for a catering hall you can imagine. Now run by the Cipriani's the food is pretty good, not fab but pretty good.

I recently went to a private dinner party at Blue Fin at the W in Times Square. It is not an ideal location, but the room was large and nice and the food and drinks were great. Not sure of the price though.

Check out Compass on the UWS...I attended a wonderful 50th birthday party there...Fine food, great decor. And Telepan might work as well. In midtown, Amalia in the Dream Hotel has a dramatic, gothic candlelight environment for private parties...with fine service and very good food.

Talk to Rosa Mexicano across from Lincoln Center. We did a party there and they did a fantastic job., It was a sit down, but I bet they can do a cocktail party upstairs. The pomegranite margaritas are addictive.
