Keens Second Visit- Quick Review

  • 4

As you all know I am as big a steak lover as there is. Tonight I was really craving some steak and since it was a last minute thing, I knew I could get into Keens and I'd be satisfied. Last time I was there I went with the porterhouse which is absolutely amazing (tied for second with the Strip House right behind Peter Luger- see my review). I vowed the next time I went I would try the Prime Rib which I have heard raves about. Well it was great and really lived up to the hype. It was perfectly cooked bloody rare and mammoth in size- I'd say about 28 ounces or so. The best prime rib I have ever had is still Old Homestead's mammoth 36 oz. slab of meat. It edged out Keens on taste and I also loved the fact that OH had a much bigger portion on the bone which I love to gnaw. Still, the Keens Prime Rib was fantastic and one of the better steaks I have had. I also went for the old standby of fries well done and creamed spinach, which they both do very well.

To end it off, you must have dessert. I had the hot fudge sundae and chocolate bread pudding (which unfortunately is off the menu) last time but left extreeeeeemely full. So, I went with the blueberry and nectarine cobbler with some vanilla, chocolate, and some coffee ice cream (some of the coffiest things ever-if thats a word) on the side. Add in some whipped cream and I left stuffed. Stuffed but not sick to my stomach like I tend to be after these extravagant steakhouse feasts.
The service as always was on point, quick, and attentive. Unfortunately, the bull moose room was closed until winter, but the Lincoln Room was quite nice anyway. You can't beat the ambience of Keens. As usual, Keens was a great experience. They still rank right atop the best steakhouses around in my book. I will definitely be back.... next time will be in October with a bunch of family members so I am hoping someone orders the famous mutton chop. I, myself will be going with the great porterhouse but I need to try that mutton chop at least once!

  1. If budget permits why not order the mutton chop for the table to share?
