Bay Ridge pizza rules!
Drove from Manhattan to Bay Ridge yesterday to visit the neighborhood
Tried Vesuvio on 3rd avenue near 73rd and Pizza Wagon on 5th Ave near 86th Street. Both tasted like real NY sllices from the past. Vesuvio had the old fashion crust: chewy, great flavor. Pizza Wagon had the perfect sauce/cheese combo.
Add a slice of cheesecake from Jean Danet, and it was a perfect day. Next stop, "Lento's Style Pizza" at Jose Murphy Canteena.
By the way, "fried pizza" is gross.

Although it's not the same as the outstanding pizza served at the original Lento's on 3rd and Ovington, their SI location, on New Dorp Lane, serves some tasty pizza.
Next time you do the BR Pizza tour, after the Pizza Wagon, try to have an incrediblke eclair from Your Baker, just up a couple of blocks on 86th st. After Vesuvio, check out a Blk and white cookie at Leske's on 5th and about 77th st

Leske was out of almost everything. I guess you have to get there early.

It's one of the very few 'autheitic' bakeries around left over from a time when BR waas almost exclusively scandinavian, so it may sell out quickly. We've had many a delicious special occasion cake from there and their almond and cheese rings are delicious without being too sweet.
As a bonus, the Deli across 5th, Mejlander and Mulgannon, has killer salads and some good daily specials. (Aside from being the cleanest food store I've ever been in). By all means, try again sometime :-}

I still say Grandmas (3rd btween Ovington and 69th) makes the best pizza

All these places are great. I think best pizza in the nabe is at Peppino's and at Nino's. Peppino's gets soggy on delivery, cause its brick oven, but Nino's is old-fashioned oily, salty slice. Excellent.

I totally forgot I was so close to Pizza Wagon!!! I've been going to Peppino's and ordering from Vesuvio. I hope Pizza Wagon delivers to my block!
BTW the cannoli gelato at Jean Danet is to die for.

Jean Danet is terrific. I hear they have another branch but under a different name. Anyone know where?
