DFW Chow Friendly Football (incl. live opening of National Sports Lounge review)
My sweet husband, who who has the pleasure of picking up the check while I try all the new restos loves football. The man has 4 fantasy teams... which means effective today I have many Saturday (college), Sunday (early, late, night), Monday (night), and sometimes Thursday games to look forward to. If I am to survive til the new year, food is essential!!!!!!!!
We are forever in search of the perfect place to Watch The Games. Usually, this means "Watch the Early Games" which is Sunday morning, at 11 (go early to get a good seat) until 3:30 (end of game, race home to catch the begininning of the Late Games.) So, brunch is in order.
We need a Chow Friendly football bar... he needs TVs with the full sports package (e.g. Direct TV, more viewing than basic cable. aka "All The Games"). I need decent food, preferably solid brunch, and ideally, an excellent bloody mary. Bonus points for wireless (chow posting), plentiful outside TVs (bring the dog), waitresses who get to wear clothes, and my dream... no, nevermind, lets just shoot for brunch and TV.
Review of NSL (Live)
I am posting this live from the National Sports Lounge on Greenville Ave. This is basically their opening, so its extra interesting for me... bottom line: big crowd place is FULL but service is not keeping up, largely due to mgrs not staff.
Food situation: No Brunch menu. Pro: Buger not greasy, nice option to get avacado slices, apparently they are out of tomatoes. Bonus points: Wheat Bun on my burger. DH got pulled pork sammy.... that was good. Light for bar food, a plus for us.
Atmostphere: TV situation: when we got here they lacked the key to get into the mgr's office to get the remote. That took 20 mins. Later, took 20 mins to figured out how to turn them on. Ultimately: All The Games, seconds to spare with the kick off.
Service: Wait staff is good, our waitress in particular. Management, less so. I actually love our waitress. Her get up is the less scary (people are in Church!) of the two options, but shes a doll, and a pro. The Mgr told all the ppl who waited through the TV turn on debacle, (these are rabid football fans, every second the games arent on freaks them out and this is a sports bar, it was a tense moment... think of going to a fine resto and they cant get into the wine cabinet, but keep saying "we will, we will") just came around to the full tables on opening day of his resto and told them all they had to leave by 3pm. For non-football ppl, the Early Games end at 3:20ish. (So, this is like "I know your goat cheese panna cotta with raspberry coulis and almond butter tuile is coming but you can stand in the corner and eat it, we need to turn over your table"). Maybe they dont want a football crowd.
Bar: Holy cow, these beers are huge. The medium is a double decker. Bloody Mary is doctorable.
Crowd: Toddler count: earlier, this was high, all well behaved, very cute, entertaining, a plus. Male Female ratio: solid. Lots of groups with both. Saints fans in the house. Jerseys - One per table. Place is packed.
Net- Net: I would come back but would really rather something with eggs, Hubby will only come back if the 3pm situation is resolved favorably, its a cliff hanger.
Are there any Hounds out there that love football? Can you help?
