Looking for Chicago's best

Hello Chicago Chowhounds. I'm a Southwest hound who will be coming to Chicago for 3 days in November to take a board exam.

I'm looking for recs for a dinner to celebrate finishing the board exam. Cost is no option. I just want to experience some of the best the city has to offer and have a memorable experience.

I'm thinking that right after the exam I'd like to do a simple steak meal. I tend to prefer "new age" type places rather than the clubby dark Mortanesque places. Seems like I'm creating new adjectives. Anyway, places I've really enjoyed are CUT and Stripsteak (both in Vegas). I was looking at Primehouse and Keefers as contenders.

The next night I'm looking for a fantastic and memorable tasting menu/wine pairing experience. I had my heart set on Alinea, but they will be closed the days we are in town. Now I'm looking at Charlie Trotter's. I dined at Bar Charlie in Vegas which was fantastic and would be most excited to try his flagship restaurant. I'd be interested in knowing the Chicago Chowhound's take on CT. I'd also like to see if there are other options which may be better.

Thanks in advance.

Primehouse is one of my favorites--try one of the dry aged cuts. Keefer's also does a great job and excels at sides. Ajaisteak is relatively new and I have not yet tried it, but it's rep is definitely new school steak but expect to pay for it. The steak at Custom House was very good, but I personally wouldn't go out of my way.

Charlie Trotters, True, Moto, or Avenues are really your choices for the money doesn't matter meal. Alinea is better than them all.

For a steak, consider Custom House
