Review of Thelma's Morning Cafe- Santa Clarita
On recommendation of other Chowhounds...I finally tried Thelma's Morning Cafe in Santa Clarita. Here are my findings...
Very nice little place in a strip mall. I went with two friends. They made a rookie mistake by ordering the same thing off the menu. Don't they know you are supposed to divide and conquer? I digress..my friends had the seafood eggs benedict. They both loved it. The hollandaise sauce was appropriately "lemony" and the crab cake was light and delicious. The only down side was that they both agreed that the scallop was too salty.
I ordered the Cowboy breakfast that included biscuits and gravy, I asked for bacon instead of the sausage and was granted my every wish. Here's my conclusion on my meal...I ordered wrong. I don't really like biscuits and gravy and was curious to see if they had a unique interpretation of this breakfast staple. They did not. They were pretty traditional and tasted like biscuits and gravy. And if you like that for breakfast, you will be happy with the purist one's you find at Thelma's. Otherwise, my eggs were perfectly cooked to my request (over medium) and the rosemary flavored house potatoes were delicious.
Now the only downside..(which probably tells you more about me and my friends than about the restuarant.) they didn't have any "adult" drinks on the menu. No bloody Mary. No mimosa. No screwdriver. Which wouldn't be too unusual, but they made a point of telling us that they are now open for dinner. I'm embarrased to say I missed a morning Mimosa...but not too embarrased to say that I won't go to a place for a Friday night dinner and not have the reasonable expectation of having a nice glass of wine with my entree.
All in all..it was a lovely breakfast. I would definately go there again for breakfast or lunch. But won't go there for dinner until they get their liquor license! Anyways...thanks again for all the great advice!

Hey Buckeye - I am almost 100% certain that Egg Plantation on Lyons has a full (?) bar during breakfast - at least I saw people drinking bloody mary's when I was there. Thank you for the report!

Phew, I'm glad that you liked it, for the most part! For breakfast I like their Pancakes w/ Fruit, Biscuits with butter and honey and Crepes. GF likes the Omlettes and Scrambles. For lunch my favorite dish there is their salad with squid served warm and crispy on a large freshly fried won ton and cold greens dressed with a dressing that tastes of Siracha Sauce (I had it just yesterday but forget their name and description on the menu).
It's funny that the beverage choice was an issue for you because I wish that they offered house made (real) lemonade instead of the junk from Coca Cola! I've been wanting to try some of their other lunch items so if I can make it over this week I'll ask the chef/owner if a liquor license is in the works and what his corkage policy is. Thanks for reporting back!-----
