Pick you own tomatoes

Paulustrious Sep 7, 2008 04:58 AM

Anybody out there who can recommend a place to pick tomatoes - preferably on the east side of the city?

It is tomato sauce season and the bushels in the shops this year are unappetising.

Answering my own question...I found this: www.pickyourown.org/catoronto.htm. However it doesn't really help.

Following the farm links from that page, this place in Markham has "roma and paste tomatoes" to pick your own right now:

Weather didn't help. Still, I'm wondering what exactly you're after. I'm seeing lots of acceptable Romas around the western GTA--some better than others but that's hardly news.Shop around.

The bushels I am seeing are not that good - I guess it's not been a really great year for the romas. I have bought about 400 lb so far, so I only have another 600 - 800 to go.
