Help me find a good Philly cheesesteak sandwich in Scottsdale or Phx...

Tried the Philadelphia Sandwich Co. in Scottsdale today; it was ok but nothing to rave about. Any suggestions?

Have you tried it? I've only driven by - would be interested to hear your thoughts.

      My top 2 are:
      1) Flancer's (Gilbert)
      2) DeFalco's

No, I haven't. Been meaning to, however.

I've been to Forefathers and it's delicious. Good quality meat in a good portion and tasty bread that soaks up the grease nicely. The salads are surprisingly good for a cheesesteak place, with spring greens and homemade dressings. It's a nice environment too, though I think they do a lot of their business with take-out orders. I've only been there once, but we're planning to go back.

        1. Last Week I went to Defalco's Deli. It is the best Cheesesteak in town. It blows away Corleone's or Philly Sandwich Company. (Forget Uncles Sam's) The sandwich was meaty, full of cheese and onions, and a fresh roll that would make Amoroso's cry. DeFalco's is the best. (at least until Pat's or Geno's moves here)

It's a chain, and it's out of Jersey, not Philly, but I tried the cheese steak at Jersey Mike's a couple of weeks ago and thought it was one of the best I've had. The meat was not greasy, the roll was soft, and I liked the cheese ratio (gooey, but not too much).

I tried the one in Ahwatukee, on Chandler Boulevard just west of 48th St., adjacent to a Starbucks. Looks like there's one in Tempe, too, on Scottsdale Road.

I see five locations on their website in the Phoenix area.

I like the Big Kahuna Cheese steak ...w/ jalapenos! Yum!
They roast their own meat and slice it fresh for each sub!
The offer a sub in a tub if you want to skip the bread.
It's pretty good for a chain!

I believe the meat in a true cheese steak is sliced thin and grilled not roasted.

It's emotionally impossible for the best Philly Cheesesteak in Phoenix to be from a sub shop chain from Jersey. Just can't happen.

Oddly, one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks in Phoenix/Scottsdale - complete with authentic Cheesewizz - is at the Coyotes Ice Den on Bell Road in North Scottsdale. They are putting in two new restaurants and during construction you order at the lobby snack counter, get a number to display and pick a table. Pretty good onion rings too. Yes, it is an ice rink but try it.

            2. I am going to give Forefathers a try. I think it will be hard to beat DeFalco's. Whatever you do, do not go to Uncle Sam's on Shea. In a weak moment I ordered takeout from there last night. I remembered why I stopped going there. They shorted me one sandwich, made one sandwich wrong, and refused to remedy the situation. The bread was mushy and the onions tasted peculiar. Take my advice, avoid the weak moments and go to Defalco's. If you really can't avoid the weak moment, go to Corleone's.

              1. I actually really like the philly cheesesteak sandwich at Wally's pub on Doubletree and Scottsdale road. The bread is crispy, the steak is great quality, and all around it's just a great sandwich. Skip the sweet potato fries and onion rings, they're soggy and gross. Regular fries are ok, but I'd say go with a salad as it's better than any of the fried sides.

Wally's is a few blocks East of Scottsdale Rd.
