I don't drink soft drinks or beer in cans, and the dispenser takes up a lot of cm2 in a tiny (mini or small-midsized) apartment fridge. Are there any contemporary small fridges without that useless and space-wasting accessory? Thanks. Talking about 4 to 8 cm3. In North America (sure, I've seen lots in Europe)...

So we can assume your previous search was not productive. What is the size you desire in cubic feet?

Yes wolfe, I meant feet. What I described would have been a restaurant fridge, not a small one!

Flourgirl, do even larger fridges have those nasty can dispensers now? What a waste of space, and thus of energy. And I only buy 6 eggs at a time...

They sure do. I don't even have a particularly large fridge. It's a GE profile bottom freezer. I was just happy to find a fridge I liked that fit the space I have available that didn't have through the door ice and water. It's bad enough that it has an ice maker. I hate stuff like that because it's just more stuff to break down and likely more repair bills. We don't have it hooked up but it takes up an enormous amount of room in the freezer. I am perfectly capable of filling ice cube trays. But as for the can dispensers, I usually have a couple of dozen eggs in the house at all times because I bake a lot. So as soon as I realized that the egg cartons fit those dispensers perfectly, I was glad they were there because it freed up room on the shelves for other things.

I can't help with the fridge search but I hear your pain. It is very hard to find a good fridge in almost any size that doesn't have all those specialty dispensers/bells and whistles. We don't buy soft drinks or beer in cans, but I started using the can dispenser in my new fridge to hold the egg cartons.

This is a little smaller than your dimensions but ot has a separate freezer. The problem is I can't find a picture with the lower door completely open.

I LOVE that. I could live with that (though something similar but a bit larger would be better still). Love the separate freezer space. I'd ask if there was space wasted on CanStor. I'll definitely get in touch with Danby about Canadian availability.

flourgirl, I don't bake a lot except perhaps for pizza (no egg), and the occasional quiche or savoury tart (I eat almost no sugar). I know how to bake and can do it well, but there isn't much point for one person unless you live in a place where decent bread is unavailable. Almost never use ice either, except for sprains. I live ten minutes' walk from one of the best farmers' markets in North America, so I can pick up eggs at a moment's notice if I should need them, say for a strata.

I've also found a little magic chef one with two doors (separate freezer) - but still the durned can dispenser. Wondering if I could reconfigurate it to hold other small things?
