Obama and McCain cookies!

A bakery by me in the NW suburbs of Chicago has been making Obama and McCain cookies. They will have the vice presidents in cookie form soon too. They're pretty cute!

I took pictures of them and wrote about them here: http://chewonthatblog.com/2008/09/05/...

This shouldn't be a surprise coming out of Chicago, but doesn't Obama look warm and happy, while McCain looks scowling, bloated, and angry?

I say this as an Obama supporter.

The Obama cookie is definitely more flattering. It could be naked political bias, but think it's probably just that the cookies are oval, which more closely approximates the shape of Obama's face. McCain's face is roughly trapezoidal (with the short side of the trapezoid on top), so to get it on an oval cookie they have to distort his features somewhat.

Check out the angles of the eyebrows.

Oh yeah, I noticed. But when a portrait is in 3/4 profile the eyebrows often look cock-eyed. My guess is that the designs are copied from photographs, so the specific photograph they used may be to blame. And icing isn't a very good medium for conveying the nuances of facial expressions.

It could just be that they're trying to make McCain look bad, but I really doubt it, since presumably they want to be able to sell cookies to everybody.

yep, the decorator of the cookies clearly is an obama supporter. benign obama vs, scowling, angry mccain. are they going to bake a crow cookie, that some can eat post-election? ha! ;-)

Frida's bakery in Largo, FL - near Clearwater - has been making these cookies as well.

I'd love to see a picture of theirs.

I haven't seen them yet, but my husband describes them as sugar cookies with a screen print of each candidate on them. I'm hoping to get in this weekend; my donut craving is getting too intense to ignore and they have delicious coconut ones.
