Fish Market on Weekend

gemster Sep 5, 2008 09:14 AM

I'm pulling together a sushi night with some friends next Sunday and am looking for places to buy some fresh (obviously sushi grade) fish. Open to grocery stores, farmers markets, anything really. I know the San Rafael farmer's market has some nice fish on Sundays; anywhere else good in the area (preferably in the city but not necessary)?

    Nijiya's open 10-8.

Fish at farmers' markets is not usually sushi-grade.

Shogun sells sushi grade tuna, hamachi and often a few others at their stall at the Ferry Plaza on Saturday.

Just out of curiosity, it looks like Nijiya is open on Sunday, but how fresh is the fish that day?

Fish isn't delivered on the weekend.

Except for tuna, sushi-grade fish has been frozen to kill parasites.

Super Mira is also open Sunday, has sashimi-grade fish and is not a chain.

Not sure if Yasukochi's Sweet Shop in the corner is open on Sunday, though.
