Cute, date restaurant - no reservations needed

aefitz Sep 5, 2008 08:56 AM

Hi -

I'm looking to go to a new restaurant tonight for "date night" -- something moderately priced ($20-$30 entrees) and not requiring a 2 hour wait to get in. Would prefer someplace with outdoor seating with some character. Pretty open to types of food, but looking to stay downtown-ish (Union Square and below).

To give some context, have been considering Hearth, August, Hundred Acres, Forge, Lupa (the wait took this one off the list) and Mercadito.

This is too late, but for your next date . . . consider Bacaro (Italian, same owners as Peasant), Rayuela or Elyssa Dido (Meditteranean/African, has a small outdoor patio). All LES. Cornelia Street Cafe and second Po suggestion (caveat - you may need a reservation since it's so small), both on Cornelia Street.

Ivo and Lulu, BYOB and Cheap. Short menu but very good.

hearth is pretty pricey for a date nite (as opposed to special occassion date). id try pia dina or po.

just went to po, it was delicious. i didn't love hearth. if you don't know your date well it might not be the type of place you want to go on a first or even secon date. bar pitti has outside seating but might be too hectic for a date.

I would recommend Hearth. Used to live near it and everything I would order would be wonderful. decor is rustic-pleasant. Really great.

If you like french cuisine, Fleur de Sel I would recommend also for being a great date restaurant. I've often had no problems getting a reservation here. the decor is sophisticated cute, and the food is excellent.

Annisa is a wonderful date restaurant in the west village, which houses the highest rated female chef in new york, annita lo. the decor is a zen-minimalist white, wonderful food, New American-Asian influences.

Euzkadi on 4th street between 1st and 2nd avenue.
Spanish Basque Tapas in a dark, candlelit cozy restaurant with all sorts of character and most importantly, romance... i've met many a date here... the tables are small which means you must....get....close... on tuesdays they have live spanish music, lots of europeans, it's just hidden and great --and you rarely ever need a reservation. during the summer and good weather (now), it's semi-open air (not technically outdoors, but there aren't any windows so the air flows in, hard to explain)

                Highly recommend Forge
