Chicago Dogs @ Da Beef in SOMA?
Any 'hounds tried the new Chicago hot dog place Da Beef? Oddly, the list of "hot dog fixins" from the website, http://www.dabeef.com/ ,
* Mustard
* Onion
* Pickle
* Relish
* Sport Peppers
* Celery Salt
doesn't include tomatoes even though the illustration used from Vienna Beef does.

tomato slices are part of the official chicago style hot dog. I bet they have 'em.
If they stayed open later I'd check them out this week. As it stands I'm hoping to have lunch there Saturday. Will report back when I do (and really looking forward to them having Italian beef).

So we stopped at Da Beef today. It's a hot dog cart set up in the oil can henry's parking lot, right on the corner of 7th and folsom.
It's run by two women; at least one is a chicago transplant. They were nice and friendly, and even had samples of the italian beef they hope to start serving soon.
The dogs are vienna beef but the vienna beef jumbo dogs (not that there's anything wrong with that...) They do NOT currently have tomato slices but everything else makes an authentic chicago style hot dog. They are working toward having tomato slices, too.
I'd give them a big thumbs up. It's a vienna beef dog and (for me anyway) a super convenient location. Look forward to them having italian beef soon, but definitely recommend a stop by!

Thanks for checking it out. Jumbos are natural casing dogs?

That's how it reads on the Vienna Beef web site (and there was a definite--and satisfying--crunch to the dog.

Da Beef is now serving on select Saturdays, including today, at the Overtime Bar in SOMA down the street from their usual spot. They get to serve fries in that kitchen and it really makes a difference paired with a Chicago Dog or Beef. Oh...and of course you can order a beer there too. A great bargain meal.
Click on their website for location details for today.
