Where can I find Ekmek in NYC?
My wife and I went to Greece for our honeymoon and had lots of a dessert called Ekmek. After doing some research (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekmek_ka...), it appears to be a Turkish dessert, but I haven't seen it anywhere in the city (Greek OR Turkish restaurants).
Our second anniversary is coming up and I'd like to take my wife someplace where we can get some Ekmek! Anyone ever seen/heard of it?
It's also called Bread Kadayif.
You can find it at Akdeniz

Are you sure Akdeniz serves bread kadayif? Their menu seems to offer the regular kadayif made from shredded filo.

Hmmm, according to Menutopia, Akdeniz serves "Kadiyif" which is described as "baked shredded wheat stuffed with walnuts flavored with honey syrup, garnished with pistachios."
The Ekmek Kadiyif we had in Greece had a shredded filo base and the honey syrup, but was covered with a creamy sort of custard. I think the custard part is what makes it Ekmek, as opposed to just Kadiyif.

i can confirm that the shredded pastry version *without* custard is the only one i've ever seen at akdeniz.
i've never eaten at thalassa, but apparently that restaurant serves ekmek kadiyif: http://menupages.com/restaurantdetail...
milos on 55th to the west of 6th ave. serves it as well. i haven't tried any desserts there other than sorbet, but the food is very good, generally. everything is simply prepared and very fresh.

The quest continues and a reliable source at a local Greek bakery tells me that ekmek is in fact Armenian! So does anyone know of any Armenian restaurants / cafes in NYC?

Ekmek has to be *fresh* to be good. Get out of Manhattan and get over to Astoria for your ekmek fix. Two places that definitely have it are Lefkos Pyrgos, and Omonia Cafe. Both are good.
Weekends are your best bet for freshness. Omonia makes trays of it.

I finally headed over to Astoria and found Ekmek at Artopolis Bakery (http://www.artopolis.net/). It was decidedly NOT tasty. The Ekmek I made at home (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bephf/se...) however, was tasty.

Artopolis is a great bakery, but NOT for ekmek. I recommended you go to Lefkos Pyrgos, and Omonia Cafe (moreso), but you strayed. Those slivered almonds on your ekmek would *look* and taste better if they were toasted a little darker, but that's just my personal preference. Enjoy your homemade ekmek. : )
