Spent Labor Day in Newport. We stopped by Loca for an early lunch, around noon. They were only 2 other parties besides us (given the early hour?) on the upper outside deck. We both had the surf and turf soft taco combo (one each of carne asada and fresh fish, $11). Fish properly had red cabbage, pico de gallo, and crema. Nice char on the lightly battered fish pieces and the fish was fresh - flaky, even. Carne asada had the same pico de gallo and cilantro. Both came with black beans, rice, and sour cream. I preferred the fish, he preferred the beef. In any case, they were both delicious and both hit the spot. Crisp Sauvignon Blanc and Newport Storm on tap to drink.

Had an early dinner at Salvation Cafe, way out back at the tiki bar. He had the Salvation Cafe burger, which unknowingly and unexpectedly came as a wrap. A bit overcooked, too. Fries were okay, but a little skimpy in portion size. I had the linguine with local littlenecks in basil pesto - delicious. I definitely out-ordered him. Redolent of much garlic. Dipped nice crusty bread in the remaining sauce (you have to ask for the bread). Red sangria was too tasty and so was Cisco Bay beer on tap. Just friendly enough bartender.
