Great coffee houses between Dal and FW
Buon Giorno Coffee
2350 Hall Johnson Rd
Grapevine, TX 76051
On the premises, fresh roasted coffee.
This is a "coffee house" destination. This is a board game room; sometimes tournies. This is a neighborhood "coffee klatch kitchen". This is an entertainment venue (see their web site calendar). This is a place to read a book - or the paper - catch up on free wi-fi, or just leisurely hang out.
As you walk in, there is a very tall book case containing a LOT of games as well as coffee table type books to thumb through as you enjoy your daily brew. It just screams "Come in and stay awhile.".
Offerings include loose leaf teas, smoothies, coffee from freshly roasted beans*, pastries/cakes (from Main Street Bread Baking Co in Grapevine), quiche, paninis..............
The service is very personal. When you place your order, they ask your name and speak to you by name when they deliver your order to your table, or during any conversational interaction that may subsequently occur.
On a cold blustery day, their hot chocolate is out of this world - the deep, dark, rich tasting European type - with a swirl of dense, thick whipped cream floating on top - you can eat it with a fork. OH SO GOOD!
* The coffee beans that are used are roasted on site with the "roaster" in clear sight (and smell) of all tables. I've never been there during the roasting, but I can only imagine the aroma high that would ensue. There are about 20 different varieties available for purchase at any time. Many are rotated into their daily coffee service. A chalk board indicates the selection currently being served. All are available for whole bean purchase by the pound and nothing sold is more that a couple of weeks out of the roaster.
David is the owner and is happy to discuss with you his roasting process and other coffee facts and misconceptions - and there are a few notables - like dark roast surpasses a light roast in a richer flavor.
I just really don't see the need for ever going to the "other" place. The one drawback is that it's somewhat close to an area high school and the afternoons can be overrun with teens.
