Edmonton Alberta Recs needed

I'll be going to Edmonton the first full week of October. I will be staying at the Wesin downtown and I am looking for a taste of the cuisine of Edmonton.

I am personally looking for something good, local and not necessarily haute cuisine,

I am also looking for a good Indian place and a good Chinese place for a large group. A bunch of us from the convention will usually head to one of these places for a group dinner.

Thanks.

Chinese - two places closer to your hotel that can handle large groups would be Century Palace and Mirama

Indian - Haweli is near your hotel; there's a buffet at lunch if you don't have lunch through your convention. A little farther away is Khazana, and across the river is New Asian Village.

Within walking distance, there are a number of good restaurants over in Rice Howard Way, like It's All Greek to Me and Bistro Praha. The Hardware Grill is close too if you want to try Alberta beef, bison, venison, etc.; however it is upscale and has been getting some mixed reviews on Chowhound lately.

A great local place across the river is Culina. If you let us know how far away you're willing to travel from your hotel we can give you many more suggestions.

I fancy myself a Chowhound so I'll cab it or drive myself just to get great food. As for my cohorts, I think a short cab ride would be fine, anything further will start to cramp their style.

Try something from this posting for yourself, in that case:
