Yuzu in torrance has some of the best sashimi in LA, as well as other izakaya items. Beautiful outdoor patio or gorgeous modern interior. Decent wine and sake list. Extremely japanese and hard to get a reservation. Across the street from Depot in old town torrance which is not a bad area to walk around a bit.

Chef Melba in Hermosa.. eat there and get your groove on at Pier Plaza. You will like the place, food and low key vibe..

And in the old Deliboys space in Metlox Plaza where Shade is, a new sushi restaurant just opened up, Sashi Sushi. No one has reported on it yet, perhaps you can be the first!

just so you know, musha does not serve sushi; they do serve sashimi, cooked fish dishes, homemade tofu, etc.

              Hi curious christy,

As westsidegal mentions, and to further clarify since you mentioned taking your sushi pals there, Musha does not serve Sushi, and it's not a place to go to for their Sashimi, either, IMHO. Musha is a fun, modern Izakaya, a "Japanese Pub" if you will, with their strengths being the great atmosphere and interesting Cooked Dishes / Small Plates (and their Japanese alcoholic drinks (^_~)). Enjoy~ :)

Mediterranio in Hermosa Beach on Pier ave. They have a great tapas menu as well as entrees. Sit on the patio and watch all the people going by.

Musha in Torrance! Yummy izakaya (cooked Japanese food with some sashimi). Delicious small plates so great for a group to sample lots. Fun place. Caveat that some dishes are light but some are heavy. Call ahead and reserve the large table in the middle (or at least part of it) for your group. Search these boards or Google it to read more about it and see pictures.

If you didn't want to go so ethnic you could also do Fritto Misto in Hermosa Beach.
