Will be driving to the Seattle area tomorrow and wondered if I should buck the traffic to eat in town or if there are any really good but not fancy restaurants in the Bellevue/Kirkland area??

There are plenty of good restaurants in the area. As for really good, you might look at Cafe Juanita. I haven't been, myself, but it gets great reviews, and is in the Kirkland area. It is, however, on the fancy side.

In Bellevue, I like Seastar, but there's better seafood to be had in Seattle proper, and it's worth the trip into downtown to get it.

      What kind of food?

Quite a few people rave about Bamboo Gardens. I've enjoyed eating there, but it's not a top pick.

Facing East is Taiwanese food...not what you usually find in Seattle area Chinese restaurants.

There are a number of Japanese/sushi restaurants--Yama at the Galleria and Flo are my favorites.

The Tap House Grill is where I usually take people who's food taste I don't know much about. The menu is vast and varied.

None of the above are fancy, by any means. Seastar, previously mentioned, I would consider special occasion dining.

I really love 08 seafood grill in Bellevue at the Hyatt. We haven't had a meal that we didn't like. Although our server was a bit obnoxious. The owner has a local talk show on Saturdays from 1-2 (I think)

Flo's is really great.. far better than Yama in my opinion.
Facing East is a great place too - I eat lunch their often. Their service can be hit or miss though - some days it is beyond perfect, other days dishes got forgotten, wrong orders get delivered.
