My favorite placed closed after 25 years and now I have to search for a new reliable place. Any suggestions?

Wow, 25 years, geeze, that's annoying. I knew a place like that once, at the end more or less of Yet Another Main Street (Htown maybe?) Hope everyone there is doing well but who knows, right? But anyway, I digress once again ( m;), o/c ) What can I say, it's all there somewhere, it's just a question of digging out the right, correct thing, wwnn.

Anyway, Union Square's kind of a toughie for Chinese off the top of my head and I rarely even pass by Gramercy Park anymore. I can't think of a proper sit down restaurant nearby but if you ever decide you want to try "branching out" a bit (sorry), you could try Vanessa's dumplings over on 14th St. and somewhat east of 3d Ave. The dumplings are mostly very good - never got around to trying their beef, but the pork apparently agrees with half of my genese anyway. They have some kind of interesting sandwich-y sort of things - one a sort of Asian take on pulled pork, sort of, and their smoothies are decent, if pretty ordinary. Definitely a good quick lunch fix with excellent value for money spent.

There are a couple of Vietnamese places on University, but neither is very good. I honestly don't know if there's any of that old-style Chinese-American left around there, but there's always menupages.com. :) Oh, all this reminds me, there might be an old 70s style greasy takeout place somewhere on the other side of the street in the general vicinty of Vanessa's.

There's more, there's always more, but nothing that seems that relevant for the time being, anyway....
