Alinea - wine pairing...
we have a reservation for Alinea in 2 weeks. We will go for the "smaller" tasting menu, since our reservation is a bit late, at 8.45.
Anyway, I have some questions regarding the wine pairing options at Alinea.
1. Is some sort of aperetif included in the pairing? I never read anything about people ordering something before the actual pairing starts, so I guess there is no need for this...? (Just once someone mentioned a 50$ glass of champagne - which is something I definitely want to avoid...)
(By the way: do they serve american sparkling wine as well? We are from europe and therefore are more interested in american stuff than in something like champagne)
2. Is it possible to split the regular wine pairing? And do we have to feel "cheap" if we do so? Point is that alcohol does not go too well with us in larger quantities - and we don't want to loose track of the food, which is what we came for in the first place...
3. The 3rd person in our party is not allowed to drink alcohol at all, for health reasons. Do they have a water menu as well?
Thank you very much!
Greetings from overseas
You can split the regular wine pairing. Don't feel cheap. I actually prefer to do this as I tend to get full from too much wine. I've enjoyed my meals at Alinea much more when I've done split pours.
They have several water options available, but I wouldn't say there's a water "menu". They may also be able to do non-alcoholic beverage pairings, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
BTW, we just celebrated our first anniversary at Alinea about a week and a half ago and it was (once again) absolutely spectacular. Enjoy!
