I'm going to up in Toronto next week and I would like to experience some real authentic izakaya-style food. It seems Ematei is a favorite on these boards. Do they have a large selection of skewered things? Is it offered at lunch as well? How are the prices? Thanks!

Ematei is excellent and authentic (japanese by japanese). They are open for lunch and have *some* skewered things, particularly tasty is the grilled short rib. Also great sushi, udon, grilled fish, etc. Prices are reasonable and a good value considering the quality.

I wouldn't say the sushi is great, in fact I would say avoid the sushi and stick to everything else. Make sure to order some things from the menu of the day, which is always seasonal and terrific.
