A few LA Hounds expressed interest in attending the San Francisco "Hundred Hound" picnic on October 4. Well, we opened the registration this morning, so hurry over. We expect this event to sell out pretty quickly.

And we're excited that you're coming back for a visit, Russell! Carpooling is a great idea for the trek up, but be sure to save room in the van for those heaps of Southland treats. ;-)

P.S. Anyone bringing Langers pastrami?

Thanks, Melanie! October can't get here fast enough...

As for Langer's pastrami, I'll volunteer for that one. I can't believe it, but it'll be my first as far as I can remember! Now, the details:

We need enough for 20, right? Plus rye bread? Are they open on Saturday? Is day-old pastrami still acceptable?

I'd suggest that someone brings a good-sized lock-able trunk as well. Can you imagine the temptation on that long, lonely, chow-less drive up interstate 5?

Make that enough for 25.

Heh heh, 20 servicngs Langer's pastrami would be fantastic. I've never had it. As far as what to bring with it and how it holds up, you'll need to decide what puts LA's best foot forward in terms of presentation.

The Chowhound Team has reminded us to handle logistics inquiries offline and not stray from the board's chowcentric focus. Please forward future questions to thepicnichounds@yahoo.com for resolution. There's also lots of info in the FAQ on the event website (linked below).

Since you asked about carpooling earlier, maybe you should be deputized to handle those inquiries from your fellow Angelenos and have them contact you by email, if that's ok with you.

I would love to bring tamales from my fave tamale guy. Any suggestions on how to store them? Even if I bought on Friday before my plane trip, I don't know how I'd keep them warm and fresh

Much as we'd love to try your favorite tamales, maybe you should save that for LA's Chow Fiesta. I've linked below some of the great suggestions for what to bring to the picnic - maybe something on that list would be easier to tranport in good order. Per the FAQ on the event website, please let us know if you will need to warm up your dish and we'll try to schedule equipment for you to use.

The Chowhound Team has reminded us to handle picnic inquiries offline and not dilute the chow discussion on this board. Please direct further logistics inquiries to thepicnichounds@yahoo.com.

We're looking forward to hosting LA hounds in San Francisco. Don't forget to order you chow picnic gear to wear to the party - all profits are donated to Chowhound.com.
