I was surprised to not see any threads about this in the past year...is it such old news to Chowhounders in Seattle?
Anyway- has anyone here ever had any experience with "Miracle Fruit" (Synsepalum Dulcificum)? Does it live up to the hype?
There was a recent piece in the NYT about "Tasting Parties" that got me interested. Does anyone know of any LOCAL sources for miracle fruit (or tablets)? There are lots of on-line mail order sources, but I'm not sure how much I trust them.
According to the NY Times article mentioned above, even in NYC, you have to special/mail order it from Florida (so it probably doesn't grow well here). "The fruit is highly perishable and expensive — a single berry goes for $2 or more." Sounds interesting though!
