<content>A new hamburger, fries and shakes - that's almost the entire menu - in Brookline Village. Here's the deal; it's not a deal. It is, in fact, the opposite of a deal.

The hamburgers are pretty good - griddle cooked, fairly juicy. The fries aren't crispy, but the issue is the cost. An order of fries for one, meaning the same amount of fries you get at most places as part of your meal, cost $2.99. A burger starts at $3.99 and, get this, you pay 45 cents for pickles, onions, tomatoes. A drink, meaning a can of soda, is $1.75. I took one of my daughters and we had 2 burgers and an order of fries and we then went elsewhere to get more food. </content>

<content>Very interesting. I'd love a good limited -menu burger joint in the area (or in any area for that matter.) $1.75 is crazy for a can of soda, but $7-9 (projecting from your figures) for a burger and fries doesn't seem unreasonable to me if the quality is high. Will have to check it out.

<content>Bluntly, the burgers are fine but don't bother with the fries and save the cash. FYI, though you can request varying degrees of doneness, the patties are griddle thickness and they all come out medium or so. They're still juicy / greasy.</content>

<content>looks like you can get a burger and fries for about $7.50- with a soda extra. Not sure what kind of place this is, but that does not seem unreasonable. ps- I almost always order my fries "well done"</content>

<content>There was a post on Yelp! that reviewed their veggie burger. At least, they thought it was a veggie burger...The server said, "You mean a veggie bun?"
"Yup"..
Well, it really was a veggie bun, kind of like when we ordered a Whopper with no meat when I was in high school...Except it was $3.99...
So, I guess I won't be going....

<content>Went twice over the long weekend. The burger is drive-in revivalist - small, giddled, with lettuce, tomato and thousand island spread. I'd say they're 3 oz patties. Both times the burger had great char and was just turning from pink on the inside (I didn't specify a doneness level, and wouldn't at a place like this.) Both times the burger was super juicy and delicious. Patties not overpacked, nice and craggy.

The topping situation is a little strange at the moment. The first time I took their standard offering but the second time I asked if I could keep the tomato and just switch the onion and pickle for the lettuce and the spread (I figured I'd add my own ketchup and mustard.) So that's a fair deal, right? No trouble, right? Well no. It is not possible to make a substitution like that. Even if you wanted to decline the lettuce and spread (giving those ingredients you paid for back to the restaurant) you'd have to pay extra for 2 cents worth of onion and a couple of pickles. The guy was very nice at the counter and agreed that it didn't make much sense. Definite problem.

Loved the fries. Double cooked, 3/8" strait cut, skin on. Some green flecks and seasoned salt which I declined the second time around and vastly preferred. Piping hot both times, clearly right out of the fryer and pretty dark (more so the second time.) Crispy in places, all crispiness fading quickly as they sat in their own steam, yielding bendy, potato-y deliciousness in the classic chip truck style found all over eastern canada (hello England) but seemingly not so beloved around here (goodbye Grille Zone).

The first time I had a single and fries, coming to $7 and change. Left a little unsatisfied with the price - it's a pretty small burger - but very happy with the product. I realized that value-wise the double is by far the better way to go. It's only a dollar more and you're doubling the meat which is by far the most expensive part of the sandwich (lets say: Single: meat 3 oz. @ .25/oz cost = .75 + .40 for the rest of it= $1.15 cost x 3 = $3.45 price (actual price $3.99) Double: meat 1.50 plus .40 = $2.10 x 3 = $6.30 price (actual price $4.99) Wild speculation obviously, but there's some sense in it.

So a double with fries for $8 I can totally live with, a single with fries not so much.
Price aside, in my book the double rocks (and is close to my ideal size and style.)

The counter guy said combo deals were coming soon, so that might change the pricing structure. </content>

<content>Checked this place out for the first time today. I went with my wife, and we ordered 2 cheeseburgers, one fries, and a strawberry shake. It all came to just under $18. For a burger, that's a little pricey, but for quality, freshly cooked food, I thought it was a pretty good deal. The burger patty is rather small, but very delicious. The fries were great, but too expensive for the portion size. The shake was exellent, but again, rather expensive.

All in all -- a welcome addition to Brookline village. If one views it as a simple meal, then the price is not too upsetting. And in terms of ingredients, I thought it was top notch overall.

Will probably go again, since other good burger joints are just less convenient for us.

<content>I mostly liked the burger, thought it needed a less wimpy roll and that the fries were unforgivably limp. More here: http://thephoenix.com/Boston/Food/68970-FRANKY-N-THE-BOYS/</content>
