Pleasant pizza surprise in Pittsfield
I have to start by saying that I'm not a huge pizza fan, though I do enjoy a really well made one. Our office shared a few different pizzas from Hot Tomatos yesterday, and I was really pleasantly surprised. Never had stopped at the original Williamstown restaurant, and had noticed the Tyler St. branch but not yet tried.
The pizza crusts were crisp, nicely charred, and very pleasant. I'd have been in heaven if they were whole wheat! We had 3 different combos; my fave was a tomato & basil that they only make this time of year when the veggies are fresh-- just cheese, sliced tomato and some torn basil. The mushroom and pepperoni looked great, with thinly sliced fresh 'shrooms. I don't like pepperoni, but was told it was very spicy and excellent. The last variety was chicken and roasted garlic. I'm a pizza purist, don't usually like anything but the basics on pizza, but this was well done. The chicken was in small chunks but managed not to be too dry, and the garlic was a definite presence.
Would recommend as the best pizza I've had in Pittsfield in a while.
I tried Hot Tomatoes last hight. We had the (seasonal) pizza with fresh tomato slices, basil, and asiago and mozzarella cheeses. Oh my, was it good. Now, to try one of their several other specialty pizzas next visit.
For your information, they do not have a small pizza, so your choices are medium and large. I want to tell you, the large is huge. My wife and I have enough leftover for a least another meal.
