Need a Reservation for a Friday night in Oct in Greenport?

cd717 Aug 28, 2008 12:22 PM

My husband and I are going to the North Fork for our anniversary the last weekend in Oct. We're should arrive from the city around 7 on Friday evening. I was thinking we would walk around the town and maybe stop in someplace to grab food (making a reservation at Frisky Oyster for Sat night) but is not making a reservation a bad idea? We would do something super casual - maybe sit at a bar and have a few drinks at a pub type or cozy little place. Please let me know if I'm setting us up for disapointment and any places that might fit the bill. Thanks!

You are going to love the Frisky Oyster! We had our anniversary there last year, and made a day trip back this summer just for dinner. cant help on other restaurants however, the Frisky Oyster dominates my memory of the whole trip!

don't know how much will be opened shopping-wise after 7pm in October. I would recommend North Fork Table and Inn for your saturday night dinner. Frisky Oyster ...maybe Friday night.

Chowder Pot next to the Shelter Island Ferry dock (3rd St) in Greenport should the bill for cozy and casual pub.

The Frisky Oyster has always been my default setting for good restaurant on the North Fork, but having more recently eaten at North Fork Inn and Table, I have to say that it is now my #1 pick. It's not in Greenport, though, but Southold is very close.

Chowder pot seems like it would fit the bill for our friday. Do I need a reservation? I made a reservation for Frisky Oyster for Saturday.

So funny enough I just got an email from out hotel saying that bc of the time of year we are going, we can receive a complimentary 3 course dinner on Friday evening in the hotel bistro - la Cuvee.

Now I'm always wary of free food...anyone have a recent good or bad review? I googled it quickly and it got a good NYT review...6 years ago :)

I really like 'Orient by the Sea' out next to the ferry dock in Orient. Great fresh seafood, at reasonable prices. You can have a great meal without feeling ripped off.
