Laguna options for dinner.

1000steps Aug 28, 2008 10:32 AM

Lived and ate plenty in Laguna but for some reason haven't tried either Sapphire or Mozambique. Which is the preference, also any hints on good entrees would be appreciated. Also haven't been to Eva's in a long time, and that is an option as well. Thanks in advance.

Have only eaten at Sapphires...love their barrumundi and especially their truffle fries.

I was at Sapphire in late June for a birthday dinner for a girlfriend. We had a table outside, below the firepit. A little noisy, but that's what to expect on a crowded patio that sits on PCH. I had the pan seared halibut with couscous - very good. I also had an excellent fried green tomato appy. One of the girls had some of the truffle fries, so I had to steal one to try - yummy! If I were in Laguna again, needing a place for dinner, I'd go there.

I've only dined at Mozambique and really enjoyed their mixed plates options.

Both are excellent - I think Eva's has really gone downhill. Mozambique is somewhat more formal, unless you dine on the upstairs patio, which is a small plates concept & has some ocean views. Sapphire's patio is fantastic - my favorite dish, in addition to the Barramundi is the sauteed jumbo shrimp with ricotta tortellini & grilled baby artichokes, but I think they only serve it at lunch. you might ask for dinner... About the only things I have not enjoyed there are the tofu spring rolls (just didn't work for me) & the pavlova - I'm a pavlova purist!

Actually ended up going to Nirvana Grill and hitting up Mozambique the next day.
