[HOU] Little Bitty Burger Barn steak special - pass

  • 3

So it seems that someone at this place has been working overtime promoting this steak special. I have seen comments about it on every Houston food review website. So my DH decides he wants to try it. $9.95 for a ribeye, french fries or tator tots, and a small salad. Sounds good, but is it? Not really. The steak was thin, and greasy. I think it is a Sysco steak. Not as tasty as a ribeye should be, and it was overcooked, to boot. Fries are okay. Salad was typical, lettuce and tomato, and not much else. I had a french dip, which has a lot of meat, and I really like, but the au jus was much saltier than it was the first couple times I got it. Way too salty for me. I had to add some water to be able to eat it.

Now, don't get me wrong, I do like this place, and it is a local place, not a chain, but if you are going to bombard the internet with a recommendation, then it better be REALLY good. I guess for $9.95 we shouldn't complain, but I don't think it is worth recommending. Just my opinion.

  1. Good to know. I went for the first time for a burger a few weeks ago, pretty good, not terribly huge, nice charry flavor. The owner delivered it to my table and presented it to my friends to brag on the mushroom presentation. However, the mushrooms were CANNED. How do you feel about that? I think it's hokey. So it leads me to believe some other items on the menu might be hokey, i.e. the large assortment of wings.
On another subject...I signed up about 2 wks ago for the tx chowhounds on yahoo, and have yet to be 'accepted'. What does that mean? Thanks, Cindy

    1. I have seen the ad for the 9.95 steak @ LBBB for weeks in the Houston Press and I am glad to know that someone else went to try it before my curiosity got the best of me. We have also been considering going for the burgers, but having eaten at Christian's, there is no need to drive down there. Anyone know of any good burger joints up here in Humble/Kingwood? We have tried Just Passin Thru on FM 1960 in Huffman, but just the BBQ....apparently they have really good burgers too...and the potato salad is just perfect.

A great burger is at Pete's in Porter. It is on Loop 494. This is about a mile north of North Park on the west side of the street. They have some of the best burger's in the greater Houston area and worth trying out. They are mom and pop with the burgers handmade.

I just ate at Just Passin Thru (on your recommendation) and will post separately. It was delicious and I do plan on trying their burgers. The owner told me that they hand cut their fries - can't wait to try.
