Philly - dogs, I mean hot dogs

I just moved back to Philadelphia after three years away and saw a show on "the best hot dogs in America". This started me yearning for some good dogs. Where are they in Philly? I do not liked boiled hot dogs, but grilled (preferably over charcoal), all-beef with either saurkraut or a nice homemade meat sauce. While in Westfield, NJ today, I went to The Windmill which did have very good grilled dogs, but I'm looking for someplace closer to Philadelphia (I live in Center City). Thanks for your suggestions.

  1. APJ Texas Weiners on 13th just north of Market St. is pretty good.

For other options take a look at HollyEats for all things Philly...

I second the vote for APJ Texas Weiners!

    2. If you can cook them yourself, go to the Reading Terminal Market and get the all natural dogs from Haltemann's (near Iovines in the back corner, behind the flower place and Giunta's). They are excellent. Rick Nichols talked about them several/many years ago in an Inquirer article and I have been buying them ever since. They are great and they snap!

        Bigley9,

Are these dogs all beef or beef/pork?

      2. Check out Yo Dogs on Willow Grove Ave, in Wyndmoor. You won't be disappointed.

That's what I was going to say! The dogs we had were boiled, but you could ask for them to be grilled and I'm sure they'd be happy to do it.

        2. Paesano'son Girard Ave...not a Hot dog place....but it has what you're looking for....it will blow your mind

            I will second the Paesano's vote. A-maaaazing.

          2. Texas Weiners at 15th & Snyder. They do a nice "Greek" sauce. Their fish cakes are good too.

Lennys in Feasterville.. Home of pepper slaw. And the DillyDog and DIlly's Corner in New Hope is good too.

Tried Lennys - not so good for me but loved the DillyDog

                2. for cooking at home, nobody beat kunzlers's jumbo (they only make one size) all beef franks. soooooo delicious!

has anyone tried the kayem brand brand -- in natural casings -- from costco?

                  1. Moe's Hot Dog House at Washington Ave and Grey's Ferry

The place is legit and the hotdog options are enormous.
