applebee's unlimited panko-crusted shrimp?

alkapal Aug 26, 2008 06:43 AM

it is an all-you-can-eat promotion, and i love shrimp! has anyone tried the shrimp?
what sauces do they serve other than the mentioned cocktail sauce? remoulade? aioli? can you get substitute sauces?

It's kind of hard to mess up fried shrimp

Depends on what you begin with. As for Applebee's I'm pretty sure they could screw up tap water.

Is this the double crunch shrimp that you are talking about? Or is it something else?

I like shrimp alot myself, but the double crunch shrimp I had at Applebees was rather greasy and too thickly breaded. I couldn't stomach more than 3 shrimp, sadly enough.

I couldn't even begin to think the kind of culinary conundrum I would be in if it was an "all-you-can-eat" scenario ...

I'm not sure what shrimp they are talking about but Applebee's latest promotion is your choice of all-you-can-eat riblets, shrimp, or chicken tenders.

ipse and big nick, all i heard was "panko-crusted shrimp". i'll pay more attention next time.

Watch out for AYCE at Applebee's. I tried that with the riblets years ago, and the portions started shrinking by the second plate. The third was puny and took forever to come out. I then gave up.

That's what they used to do at Sizzlers with their all-you-can-eat shrimp and ribs.

Dunno about Red Lobster, but I remember back when I was in high school, after practice we would always head out to Sizzlers and after a while, the place would start skimping on their greasy, cheese toast. It took the kitchen about 20 minutes to give our ENTIRE table 2 pieces of freaking toast!

I've always had good luck with Red Lobster's endless shrimp. Basically you start with any two shrimp varieties (Fried, popcorn, scampi, pasta, sometimes coconut). After that, you can get endless refills of any type, one at a time.

You mean they bring you just one shrimp at a time? That must be a long dinner. Or else they must be really big shrimp. ; )

Me and hubby had the all you can eat shrimp and chicken strips at Applebees today. On a scale of1-10, I would give the shrimp a 10! They were cooked to perfection, piping hot, and NO tails on them. They were medium size, not like small popcorn type shrimp like Red Lobsters. The chicken was also delish, first order was slightly overdone and dried out. On the first order we got prob 30 shrimp and 5 chicken strips, second order prob 15 shrimp and 3 strips. I would definetely order again and highly recommend.

You didn't explicitly say it, but a 10 out of 10 would seem to imply that there's no room for improvement.

My 10 out of 10 rating applies to the shrimp at Applebees.....which is what the OP was asking......and is posted correctly under "chains".....so.......as far as chain fried shrimp go, I give it a 10..............nothing to do with it being the "best" meal that I have ever had.............
