Need a scenic drive to charming rest w/in 45 mins of Manch Vegas

Hi Hounds, Only you can help w/ this quest. Annually I take my now 93 year old friend out for a scenic drive to celebrate her b-day. She lives in Manch Vegas (NH) and enjoys motoring on the 2ndary roads w/ the top down. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Perhaps Daniels in Henniker NH but there's a flight of stairs to the restaurant on lower level which overlooks the river. Not sure if there is another entrance or elevator. I would use a NH state Atlas and Gazetteer to plot a route. A very scenic drive would be to Washington NH and Hillsboro Center. Always makes me wonder if the clock has turned back. Daniels might be w/in 45 minutes but going to Washington would be further away. A lot of people like Country Spirits but I think it's noisy. Older folk in our area like the Corner House in McKee Square, Concord NH. You could round out the day with a visit to Beech Hill Farm in Hopkinton for ice cream. It's a former dairy. Should you go to that area make sure to visit Gould Hill Orchard while they are still in business. Great view from their small parking lot (Hopkinton off Rt 103) and great variety of apples including some old varieties. Small nature museum.

Daniels it was!! Thanks, dfrostnh. It was a glorious day, we had the top down in the convertible as I picked up my 93 yo friend from the "institution" as she calls it. Took all back roads to Henniker and had a wonderful lunch by the (contoocook?) river. Her black and blue burger was delish by her description and there was no shortage of bleu cheese. She was pleased it was served w/ a generous side of fresh fruit vs. the traditional french fry side. She was delighted to eat yellow watermelon for the first time. My baby spinach waldorf salad was scrumptious w/ perfectly grilled chicken and a tart vinaigrette. Yummy and memorable day. Thanks.

oopboromom - I'm so glad you and your friend enjoyed the ride and eating at Daniels. This weekend would not have been a good time for the convertible. Happy trails!

Canterbury Shaker Village is a nice destination with a very good restaurant: http://www.shakers.org/index.php?opti...
It's about 45 minutes from Manchester. Peterborough is a little farther but Sunday brunch on the terrace at Acqua Bistro is worth the trip.

If you are interested in a nice drive just out of Manchester - through goffstown, weare, dunbarton. Heading to Concord, always nice places for lunch there. Not sure if the Granite Room in the Centennial Inn is open for lunch. Many older folks love Red Blazer and Common Man in Concord, and if Cat n the Fiddle is still open.

Thanks, you guys are the best. My friend is still pretty spry, so I think I'll try Daniels for this year, while she can still do stairs, and God willing try some of the other places in the future!
