In BH itself, I like breakfast at Il Forniao (301 N Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills, CA, (310) 550-8330). Their pancakes are good, and I really like the fried eggs with pesto, salmon and goat cheese. Baked goods are also pretty good, and the espresso-based coffee drinks in the restaurant (but oddly, not at the take out counter) are generally excellent.

John O'Groats (10516 W Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064, (310) 204-0692) is another decent breakfast place that's not too far away from BH. I like their biscuits, and their steel cut oatmeal's pretty good too.

Re Beverly Hills, the previously recommended Il Fornaio, Farm, and John O'Groats ("Beverly Hills-adjacent" as we like to say in West LA, and a personal favorite) are all very fine, but as a visitor (and subject to budget) try not to miss one or more of these definitive "Beverly Hills" experiences for breakfast:

(1) one of the big expensive hotels--Beverly Hills, Four Seasons, Beverly Wilshire, Peninsula--to feel absolutely decadent;

(2) Nate-n-Al's--for a taste of the "old" Beverly Hills;

(3) Barney Greengrass--crawling with agents and other people who all look like someone you've seen before, but (contrary to the usual inverse relationship between "industry" popularity and food quality) the food is generally excellent here, albeit overpriced, sometimes wildly overpriced.

Another place for excellent breakfast, just outside the BH city limits, is Clementine, about which there are reams of comment on the LA board.

And lots of people really like Le Pain Quotidien, although (like Il Fornaio) it is a non-local mini-chain, which may or may not count against it for your purposes.

Gee, now it's time to talk about lunch!

Barney Greengrass is on the top (5th) floor of Barneys, the department store at 9570 Wilshire Blvd. It has a pretty side patio with a view of the Hollywood Hills, if you can get seated there. It is nothing like the New York Barney Greengrass, except for the great smoked fish.

Airstream Diner, on Little Santa Monica and North Camden Drive, in Beverly Hills. They're actually open all day. Indoor and outdoor seating. I used to go there for lunch when I worked in the area, but definitely remember seeing breakfast foods on the menu.
