Kitchen gadgets in Calgary

asiandelight Aug 25, 2008 04:21 PM

Does anyone have suggestions for kitchen stores that sell gadgets, cookware, etc? Not Bowring or Williams Sonoma and not a department store but an independent that sells neat higher end stuff.

I've also seen several people at the farmer's market carrying the Reisenthel Collapsible European Print Market Tote:

Does anyone know if these are available in any stores or just online? Thanks!

Be sure to check out the knife store in the rear of Bite Groceteria. They carry some very cute (and inexpensive) little paring knives as well as extremely high end knives, 100% independent.

It's always neat to find what treasures you uncover at Winners. Not meeting your specs I know but I love to poke around there.

Geanel is my favourite. Best place to get serrated knives, and all the stuff you can get at Williams Sonoma at 1/4 of the price, but it just doesn't look as pretty. They can bring in anything not in store (but you see it on their website, check the pdf's), and they sell to the public. Not as neat as Sur La Table or JB Prince or upstairs in Zabar's...but fun nonetheless.

For restaurant suppliers I like Russell and they also sell to the public. In fact, I've never been in a restaurant supplier that wouldn't sell the small stuff to individuals. They'd probably sell the larger items or things they need to order in too but the quantities would be just silly.

Also, the Chinese restaurant supply place on Centre street north at around 10th ave has Asian stuff.

Cookbook Co. on 11th Ave SW has a crazy amount of things.
Another place with less gadgets but some interesting stuff is Lina's on Centre St. Plus you can always take a break and have a cannoli and an espresso!

I 2nd Lina's :) They carry the Epicurean cutting boards(you'll find them by the pastries not in the front) we use - and for a lot less than higher end stores.

Thanks pants, Lee Valley is not somewhere I automatically think of for kitchen things I'll have to check them out. I picked up the boards quite awhile ago now - could be I'm off about the price at Lina's (oops).

careful with those periods, especially in addies not ending in "com."

Is this just out of your house?

If you want to make a short roadtrip, head to downtown cochrane. Just a block east of the icecream shop there is a great Kitchen store, Plus alot of other cool stores on the street carrying knicknacks, antiques, and such.

If you are anywhere near red deer, head to ross street downtown. There, you will find a store called Sunworks. its awesome. anything from hotsauce, to woks, and garden fixtures. a nice change from the big box stores..
