birthday help -need a replacement for Pomegranate

I have a birthday dinner coming up this Friday. The plan was to go to Pomegranate, but sadly for us, they're on summer holiday.

So I need to find a replacement. I'd like it to be somewhat similar to Pomegranate. Not necessarily Persian, but something saucy and yummy with lots of vegetarian options and a nice atmosphere. I'm totally drawing a blank here. Any suggestions?

Sheba on College (right beside Pomegranate) has great food and lots of veggie options. Not a fancy place by any means, but the food is delicious!

you can always do Banu. it's more of a vodka bar, so if you want to get drunk it's good, with a bunch of finger food items. less stewy affair than Pomg.

Tempus on Yonge near Maitland is Persian and has a similar menu. More modern decor — bistro-ish and not a tacky take-away like you'd expect.

Have you considered maybe an Indian restaurant? I'm a big fan of Kathmandu on Yonge, just north of Carlton. Not sure about their veggie curries though. I usually get lamb and chicken curries there.

Yes, Indian is an option, but nice atmosphere and excellent food are important (both of which I have had trouble finding in Indian restaurants in Toronto.)

Tabla has both the atmosphere and the quality, so perhaps give that a try? If you do go, order the fish xacutti -- it's fantastic (and saucy).

I almost made a reservation at Amaya, but after reading your comment I remembered wanting to try Tabla too. Read a few reviews of each and decided to go with Tabla. Thanks for the recs everyone! I'm looking forward to a saucy vegetarian dinner.
