Great Italian near Bank of America Theatre?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a great place to go for Italian near the Bank of America theatre (the old Shubert theatre). I have searched through tons of old Chowhound postings, but I am not coming up with any places that are consistently considered good.

I would love to go to Spiaggia (or Cafe Spiaggia), or Coco Pazzo (or its cafe), but I'm worried that they are too far away. I really would prefer something within walking distance.

Any other suggestions for great Italian? Or do I need to just suck it up and walk?

  1. Trattoria #10 or Vivere in the Italian Village are both solid contenders. Maybe not the best Italian you've ever had but very good options.

    1. I second Vivere, or any of the other two in the Italian Village, for good old red-sauce Italian. But for a real treat, go to Piccolo Segno at Halsted and Grand and take a cab to the theater

      1. I'd say Vivere, in the Italian Village. It's the fine-dining restaurant of the three in that building, with The Village (the one on the top floor) being the red sauce place, and pretty bad, IMHO. Vivere is a very good choice - better than Trattoria #10, though not as good as Spiaggia - and the decor is a treat in itself. They have what is maybe the coziest bar in the city. And, if you really want something close by, Vivere is practically next door.
